Instead of driving over the pass, why not have these tests done at your local hospital - Shoshone Medical Center?
Where do you go for lab tests?
There are excellent physicians in the Silver Valley...but you may need to see specialists in Coeur d'Alene or Spokane at times. Your medical condition may require that you need blood tests done between doctors' visits. We are proud to provide the following services:
Chemistry
Hematology
Transfusion Services
Specimen Collection
Paternity Collection
Occupational Collection
Business Wellness Program
Why use the SMC Lab?
Rapid Service. Our goal is to help our customers within 15 minutes. We are able to draw and perform tests for both local and out of town physicians. They can mail or fax your orders to us or you can bring the orders with you.
No appointment necessary.
Extended hours. For added flexibility to meet your schedule, we have expanded our operating hours. Our hours are listed below.
Same day results. All the tests we perform are done within 4 hours and faxed to your physician as soon as they are completed. If any results are abnormal, we call the doctor to make sure they are aware of them. Your doctor can then make any changes necessary in your treatment immediately.
No Medicare co-pay. Medicare patients with approved testing have no out-of-pocket costs.
Who does lab tests, anyway?
A Medical Technician (MT) has a 4 year college degree. A Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) has completed a 2 year degree. They have passed tests to be nationally certified by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Laboratory testing is far more automated than in the past, but scientists are still needed to understand the principles behind the tests, know how the analyzers work and ensure that they are giving the correct results to your physician.
The lab at SMC uses state of the art instrumentation to meet the same Federal and State Standards as the labs in Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, or anywhere in the country.
SMC Laboratory is certified by the Idaho Dept. of Health and Welfare and meets the federal regulations of the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments (CLIA). We participate in proficiency testing from the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Proficiency Institute (API) and American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB).
