The SMC Emergency Department is staffed by a Physician and treatment team – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Nurses are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support(ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) and the Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).
The Emergency Team is ready to handle any medical crisis with competent and compassionate care, considering both patients and loved ones.

Shoshone Medical Center is fortunate to have Dr. David Lawhorn as Chief Medical Officer and Director of Emergency Medicine. In 2017, Dr. Lawhorn became the 9th recipient of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine’s (AAEM) Master of Emergency Medicine Award. He is recognized nationally for his extraordinary service to AAEM serving as an exemplary clinician and teacher also involved in leadership and activism distinguishing him as a preeminent physician in the field of emergency medicine. The Academy awarded Dr. Lawhorn the James Keaney Award in 2009. He and his wife are residents of the Silver Valley and Dr. Lawhorn travels for education and teaching opportunities and to advocate regarding state and legislative issues related to emergency medicine.
