Physical therapy assists individuals in improving mobility, strength, range of movement and overall function following an illness, injury, surgery, or episode of pain. With hands-on techniques, movement training, and specific exercise instruction, patients learn to function and move safely and correctly. When pain relieving treatments are needed, they are used as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program designed to get patients moving again. Physical therapy is provided in the hospital setting for acute care and swing bed patients, and at the SMC Wellness Fitness Center for outpatients.
